York trainer to follow….

WILLIE HAGGAS

The number 1 trainer at the meeting since 2009 is Willie Haggas. If you had backed all his runners blindly over this period you would have had at least one winner for the last 6 years and shown a level stakes profit (LSP) of 53.75pts.

Bets Wins WinStrike SP_PL Places PlaceStrike
49 12 24.49% 53.75 19 38.78%

Not bad at all! but even better when you see that….

  • All 12 winners had raced within the last 45 days
  • All 12 winners were aged 2-4yo
  • All 12 winners had raced a maximum of 10 times in their career

By using these 3 simple rules you would have had:

Bets Wins WinStrike SP_PL Places PlaceStrike
34 12 35.29% 68.75 17 50.00%

And going back to 2009 you would have seen results of:

Period Bets Wins WinStrike SP_PL Places PlaceStrike
2014 8 3 38% 35 5 63%
2013 9 2 22% 5 4 44%
2012 6 3 50% 13.5 3 50%
2011 5 2 40% 3.25 2 40%
2010 3 1 33% 6 1 33%
2009 3 1 33% 6 2 67%

Good luck,
Gavin.

  • Another stat I found looking at these, horses whose previous run was in a Class 4 or lower are only 1/10 for a loss of 5.5 points. Selecting only horses whose last race was Class 3 or higher leaves 11/24 winners with a SP P/L of 74.25.
Also, strangely the 11 winners come from 11 different jockeys!

From the 11 winners, 7/13 had a SP of 8/1 or higher, so the market isn’t a great guide.

Finally 2/9 were GB bred, 9/14 Irish bred.
    Good luck to all :)
