Great read Gavin. The guy who had a go re Wetherby must have had a large one on My Petra.Although I haven't seen the racing at Wetherby today, I would imagine something was done in regards to that type of incident happening again? Personally, I love Wetherby, but have to admit that recent events have made it hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. In regards to the fatalities though, before the 4 on one day its record had been on a par with most other tracks. The fatality on Charlie Hall day (Fell Pack)was all down to how the horse jumped the flight and had nothing to do with the track, but like a team down on its luck, when you're down there nothing goes your way. Hopefully the course can get its problems sorted and we get to see trainers not afraid to run their horse's there.
I look forward to your next blog especially with this weekends fare looking rather tasty too!
Best Regards,
Tony

Good work Gavin.

Remember this mate: if you're not p155ing anyone off, you're not taking enough risks! ;-)

Somewhat hilarious account of your betting week, Gavin. The online encounters with 'disgusteds' whose social cachet does not place them in Tunbridge Wells made me laugh, as did your lurching from bet to bet, but your account does show what a darn good betting brain you have, and reminds me that I should concentrate on singles more, rather than everlastingly going for the big hit multiples that rarely arrive.

Are the silly lads who violated your e-mail space for real, everyday in life you pick up a paper and someone has written a comment about something, you get bothered by it, but the next morning you go into the shop and buy the same paper again, same scenario, they'll be back reading your blog's adding a silly comment when it suits them, but anyone who scales the heights of ''I'm a Celebrity'', really shouldn't be on this site, it's for racing and punting fans not a couple of ''hairy grassed boys''. Tremendous piece on your punting week, takes me back to the good old days, when we were the celebrities going through the bookmakers doors. Keep up the good work, a superb read.

Perhaps "It’s time to read the last rites to Wetherby racetrack…." was going a bit far. Something needs to be done granted, but if every racetrack was written off so easily after having a bad time of it, we'd have none left! The cross country race at Cheltenham where the bushes were "just for guidance" ring any bells? or the false ground at Ayr on the corner?

Before anyone has a go at me for daring to question, I have nothing to do with Wetherby racetrack, and was disgusted with the poor turnout for Charlie Hall too. Change of management at track required me thinks.

Gavin, its my experience, garnered over 30 odd years of punting, that yahoos who take the time to write in, phone or e-mail abuse are simply working off steam to compensate for living sad empty lives and actually get off on being objectionable and insulting! I know its not easy to ignore their vile diatribes but do your best! Your blog(and Matt's!)is infinitely readable and informative. by the way, I think that A New Story is now officially past it!

Don't take it personally Gavin. Clearly such people have issues in THEIR personal lives they can't cope with. And cyberspace is a way that more and more disturbed souls are venting their misery from the discomfort of their homes on soft targets.

The bloke probably wants to tell his boss/girlfriend/missus all sorts of reasons why he's extremely annoyed, but all that is too close to home. So he can pretend you are not a person with feelings by dumping his frustration into your inbox. He may have had a big bet at Wetherby to cheer himself up on the assumption that you are the only infallible person who ever lived, but doesn't want to take responsibility for his own actions. Whatever, the tiny minority view should not be allowed dominate.

Anyway, the main thing is that those of us of relatively sound mind think you are NOT a total, complete and utter ar**hole!

There...that's better eh? :-)

Keep blogging and doing the Festival Trends. My life would be impoverished in many ways should you decide to take your imagination and initiatives elsewhere!

Really sorry to hear about the abuse you've been getting. I really enjoy reading your blogs and am always interested in your tips - we're all capable of making our own minds up whether we follow them or not, and we certainly don't have to agree with what you say about courses or anything else. As you rightly say, if we don't like it, we don't have to read it. I sahll go on reading- so please keep writing. Ignore the ignorant.

What do these idiots actually want? If you want great odds and small stakes, try the lottery, say I. Why resort to abuse? Keep up the good work, Gavin, and take Jonathan's great advice.

Hi Gavin

I've had the same with second-itus and place-itus.So with that in mind I had mostly each way bets at Cheltenham on Sunday.Best two bets of the day were Tell Massini (one to watch out for)& Alverstone.Another that was on the list for Cheltenham but then ran at Fontwell, Tullamore Dew finishing second.A good day all round for both the racing and the joy of being at Cheltenham again.
Regards.
