Hi Ian,

3 winners from 24 races hardly debunks the theory and certainly hasn't turned stall 1 into a winning draw over the last 5 years.

Hi Kevin,

He had those conditions at Newmarket for the Palace House Stakes where Equiano scorched through the race and was only 0.7 secs outside the standard but Sole Power couldn't get close to the winner. He got beaten 2 1/2 lengths that day and was 7lb worse off with both Equiano (1st) and Borderlescott (2nd) last Saturday. In his race prior to the Nunthorpe he ran 5th in a 5f Listed race at Tipperary getting weight from all bar 1 of the field. Again the winner led all the way and recorded a very fast time (1.45 secs better than standard).

Nothing in either of those two races suggested he had any chance whatsoever of winning a Group 1 sprint no matter what the trainer may have us believe.

In my opinion, Equiano will finish in front of Sole Power in the Prix de L'Abbaye.

Gavin.

JUST LIKE YOU, I COUNT SOLE POWERS WIN AS A FREAK RESULT, AND I FEEL IT WAS MAINLY DOWN TO FANCIED HORSES NOT SHOWING THEIR TRUE RUNNING.
IT WAS DECENT OF PADDY POWER TO GIVE BACK LOSSES ON SARISKA, BUT THAT WAS ONLY TO PROMOTE THERE BUSINESS, RULES ARE RULES, ABD WE HAVE TO STICK BY THEM!

Hi Gavin, As far as the Sole Power result goes, I think that it's highly likely that the horse will never win another race, and I will be opposing it every time it runs. Results like that give credence to the betting shop argument that racing is "bent", and I can see why.

Regards Sole Power I'm assuming you didn't see the trainers post race comments. He basically said that in Ireland the sprints are run with a slow pace initially which is all against his horse. Both when breaking the track record at Dundalk and winning at York the early pace was frenetic. It is normally similar at Longchamp in the Abbaye and assuming he gets a draw near the rail I think he is a certainty for that race.

Phew good to see you back. Hope your feeling better too. Looking forward to the jumps season now. Also the recent placepots at Newton Abbs have been very reasonable. So lets have a few tips on these too please chaps
best wishes

Hi,

On this occasion the bookmakers don't actually have things in their favour, theoretically they are no better or no worse off which ever way round they do it.

If they refund bets on Sariska then they implement the Tattersals rule 4 and deduct 30p in the £ on the winnings on Midday (making her a shade over 2/1) to compensate for the Non-runner.

By not refunding the bets on Sariska they pay out at the full odds of 3/1 on Midday, which being a well fancied winner means I doubt they made any more money from Sariska's refusal to race than if she had deemed to run and won.

They are fully entitled to keep stakes on Sariska as according to the rules of racing a horse is deemed a starter if it 'comes under starters orders'. Having a horse give you a run for your money and getting beat gives the same result as if he/she stands still in the stalls i.e. you lose your money!

All the best,
Gavin.
