Hi Gav.Well, after day one I thought we were going to have a good time, unfortunately it wasn't to be.However,I was lucky enough to find one of my friends in red hot form. She started with Judge N Jury then had Waiters Dream. Rewilding did the business for us in the GV stakes so a fair day.Wednesday and we had The Fonz too and after a 2nd with Samuel she had Approve.I managed to find the 2nd in the Ebor and 3rd with Julius Geezer finished the day nicely.Hooray started the ball rolling on Thursday followed by Acrostics 2nd.I went with Snow Fairy in the Oaks,oh well, then had 2 seconds in the final two races.Friday was our worst day but Moriarty covered the other races. Finished nicely up for the week. Thanks and regards,Tony

hi gavin..I also lost a packet at york.Hope you made up your losses with a few cheeky wins at poker!!

I need some luck as i'm going to a "posh " wedding in Chester next week which will cost me a fortune...New clothes ,Stop over in Expensive Manor house!!! and a voucher for a present. Crafty ask for the newlyweds as it makes you think "will they think I,m tight if I give them this amount"!!!!!

Anyway, on hols from work for two weeks so hope the punting pays off and I win it back.

Hi Brian,

I look too much like my dad to be Henry's love child! When Richard Quinn was stable jockey I did go through a period of not backing his horses but ever since Reference Point won the Derby I've been a keen follower of his horses. At least you know his horses are always trying and his strike rate this season (22%) is 2nd only to Michael Jarvis. Oh, and he's also +£17.43 to level stakes this year which is pretty decent by any standards.

Were the food poisoning and bad back connected? Can think of reasons why! Also, when did you not back a Henry Cecil runner in a big race. Are you his love child?

Paignton town centre is the betting capital of Europe, as well as the next european town of culture! Still reeling from wanting a KFC on one of the very few days I visit the mecca!! To find Ladbrokes had moved in from next door! Trauma!

Gavin, we've all been there - I remember a trip to HQ, with an old friend (then a semi-pro punter), his son, son's business partner and the partner's fiancée. Result of 6 races: Me (pro- gambler) - a 2nd; Semi-pro - 1st and a 2nd; son - 1st and 2 seconds; Business partner - 1st and 2 seconds; BP Fiancée 3 wins, 2 seconds and a 3rd! Asked what made her bet upon the winners her reply was, "Liked the Jockey's bum, Liked the horses eyes (eh? They're all brown!) and thought the silks looked nice!", thereby fully justifying the advantage of visiting the pre-race ring!
That was in about 1995 and I don't think that I ever quite regained my touch :)
